Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Customers rave about the generous portion sizes at Drakes. It's not uncommon to walk away with a satisfying meal that leaves you completely content. The haddock and chips are standout favorites, praised for their fresh ingredients and proper frying techniques that keep them crispy without being greasy.

The staff often receive heartfelt compliments for their friendliness and warm service. Many locals appreciate this personal touch, which enhances the dining experience. Not to mention, the nostalgic offering of scraps—a delightful bonus for seasoned chippy fans—resonates with many who frequent Drakes for its authentic charm.

Most Disliked

While most reviews tilt toward positivity, some mention occasional wait times during peak hours. Fridays, especially around 6 PM, see the heaviest foot traffic, which can lead to longer waits. It's wise to be prepared for busier days if you're craving a quick bite.

A few customers reported instances of uncharacteristically rude service, although these experiences are rare and often contradicted by the majority of positive feedback about the staff. It's worth noting that pre-peak hours can be a better time to visit for a more enjoyable dining experience.

After reading the comments how staff are rude and waiting ages and how the fish and chips were not nice. Stopped off for some fish and chips and lady at counter was very pleasant as-well as the guy cooking fish at the back. Waited on average 5 minutes for fresh fish and chips and tasted as good as could be. Keep up the good work team Drakes 👍🏾👍🏾

Nice to find a real chippy, I live Leicester way (born elsewhere) where they call scallops fritters. Why??? Felt right at home here. Had haddock and chips, nice fresh crispy batter succulent fish and nice chips. The lovely lady even offered scraps, for me that's a blast from the past. Great stuff see you next time I'm in the area.

Never had a bad meal from them yet. We've lived in the area for 16 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. The portions are very generous and the staff lovely and friendly. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes for cooking but then you know everything is freshly cooked and its always delicious. Well done Drakes.

I took my relatives who came all the way from Singapore to try fish and chips for the first time. Best in Leeds without going to the seaside. Very friendly lady, she gave us a free bag of scraps. No frills just good food. Nice curry sauce, mushy peas was a bit bland but can always add salt yourself.
